CBD has no psychoactive properties, whereas it’s ‘cousin’ Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) also found in cannabis, does – this is what produces the cannabis ‘high’ and remains illegal in the UK.
Researchers have stated pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and people taking medication should not eat foods containing the ingredient derived from the cannabis plant.
Professor Alan Boobis, chairman of the committee on toxicity, said: “My committee has reviewed the evidence on CBD food products and found evidence there are potential adverse health effects from the consumption of these products.”
